Women Empowerment NGO in India: How Amrita Devi Foundation Is Transforming Lives

Women empowerment in India is not just a goal — it is an urgent necessity. Millions of women across rural and semi-urban India continue to face barriers to education, economic independence, and a dignified life. At Amrita Devi Foundation, one of the most trusted women empowerment NGOs in India, we are working every day to change that — through real programs, real skills, and real impact.

Established in 2019 and registered under the Indian Trust Act 1882, Amrita Devi Foundation is a women-centric non-governmental organisation with a clear mission: to support skill development and generate employment opportunities for girls, women, and youth — with a particular focus on the underserved communities of Uttarakhand and, increasingly, across PAN India.

Why India Needs a Dedicated Women Empowerment NGO

One of the most persistent but least-discussed challenges in states like Uttarakhand is large-scale migration. Women and youth from the hills move to cities in search of better opportunities, leaving behind families, communities, and cultural roots. Across India, millions of women from rural areas still lack access to quality education, vocational training, and stable livelihoods.

This is exactly the gap that a strong women empowerment NGO in India must fill — and Amrita Devi Foundation was built precisely for this purpose.

By bringing quality skill development training to rural and remote areas — to the doorsteps of women who need it most — we create opportunities for women to build livelihoods within their own villages and states. When women can earn with dignity close to home, the pressure to migrate reduces, families stay together, and communities thrive.

Our tagline says it all: "Empowering Women, Nurturing Earth, Shaping Skilled India."

Our Three Wings: A Complete Women Empowerment NGO Model in India

Amrita Devi Foundation operates through three dedicated wings, each targeting a critical dimension of empowerment. Together, they form one of the most holistic women empowerment NGO models operating in India today.

1. Amrita Devi Women's Skill Development Institute — Skilling Women Across India

The Amrita Devi Women's Skill Development Institute (ADWSDI) is our flagship wing and the heart of our women empowerment work. As a leading women empowerment NGO in India, we have established skill development centres across rural areas of District Almora, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand, along with an online platform to extend our reach further.

Through ADWSDI, we offer three employment-oriented courses specifically designed for women and girls from underserved communities:

Computer Operator Course Digital literacy is the first step toward independence. Our Computer Operator Course equips women and girls with hands-on knowledge of essential computer applications, preparing them for employment in today's digital workplace. Every batch also includes Personality Development (PD) sessions to build communication skills, confidence, and professional etiquette — because a job-ready woman is not just technically skilled but also personally empowered.

Stitching and Tailoring Course Our Stitching and Tailoring Course is one of our most impactful initiatives as a women empowerment NGO in India. From cutting and stitching to embroidery and advanced tailoring of traditional and modern garments, we build practical skills that enable women to start home-based businesses, work at boutiques, or supply garment units. Combined with Personality Development training, women learn not just to stitch but to market their work, build customer relationships, and grow their income — one stitch at a time.

Digital Marketing Course Our Digital Marketing Course is an online, industry-relevant program that prepares young women and girls for high-growth careers in the digital economy. Every student who completes the course is offered an internship, and we actively connect graduates with job opportunities through our growing network of corporate and recruitment partners. Taught by industry professionals and certified trainers, this course creates independent, future-ready women who can thrive in a digital-first world.

2. Amrita Devi Earth Care — Environmental Empowerment for Women in India

Established in 2022, Amrita Devi Earth Care (ADEC) reflects our understanding that the work of a women empowerment NGO in India must go beyond skills — it must also address the environment women live and work in.

Afforestation and Plantation We are planting ecologically significant and economically beneficial tree species — with a special focus on Sandalwood — across Uttarakhand, the Aravalli Hills in Delhi NCR, and beyond. So far, we have planted around 1,000 Sandalwood trees in Uttarakhand villages and 500 saplings at Aravalli Hills. Every plantation project is community-driven, actively engaging local women, farmers, and youth in planting, maintenance, and protection. As these trees grow, communities will benefit economically from sandalwood — a powerful, long-term livelihood model.

Smokeless Chulha Distribution Indoor air pollution from traditional open-fire cooking is one of the most overlooked health crises affecting rural women in India. Our Smokeless Chulha Initiative has successfully distributed 110 Smokeless Chulhas in remote villages. Each unit reduces harmful smoke emissions, consumes less firewood, and comes with hands-on training on safe cooking and fuel efficiency. No woman should risk her health to feed her family — and through this initiative, we ensure she doesn't have to.

3. Amrita Devi Skill India — Youth and Women Empowerment NGO Work at a National Scale

Launched in 2025, Amrita Devi Skill India (ADSI) extends our mission as a women empowerment NGO in India into youth empowerment and employability at a national scale, offering:

  • 6-month intensive training programs led by industry experts in IT and high-demand job roles

  • Access to internship opportunities for all graduates

  • Dedicated placement assistance to help young people enter the workforce with confidence

ADSI is not just about skilling — it is about unlocking the full potential of India's women and youth to lead and succeed in the modern economy.
